On March 13, 2007 one of our friendly staff wrote to us:
Thanks W. for the excellent idea that you had 10 years ago, creating Gratis.it! It has been so successful, and gave me a job I like very much!
seems incredible but it's been exactly 10 years since that idea a bit 'wacky has become a site, a network, a company first and foremost a community of users affectionate.
seems incredible that 10 million people have clicked at least once our homepage, we tested and reviewed more than 5,000 websites or services!
's right, it also says the store's web web.archive.org that has (fairly) regularly photographed our history, making the "snapshots" of our pages.
Watching the many "fallen" after the outbreak of the financial bubble of the new economy in 2001 and very few large economic successes of the Italian web, we can say that I have made several courageous decisions which contradicts col mercato, ma di essere ancora qui, più vivi che mai, con un sacco di nuovi progetti appena partiti o che stanno per nascere.
Coraggiosi, perchè alla faccia di chi si è arricchito sfruttando i dialer rubascatti, la pornografia a go-go, contenuti osceni o piratati, ecc. noi abbiamo sempre contrapposto la nostra scelta di vita: niente porcherie, niente furti (ancorché legalizzati), niente prese in giro (servizi a pagamento nascosti sotto la voce del "gratis") salvo sviste o errori, prontamente corretti con le vostre indispensabili segnalazioni.
Ovviamente non siamo diventati milionari, ne siamo entrati in borsa (a spillare altro denaro ai risparmiatori) e siamo rimasti dei player del mercato un po' modesti. But for us, all of us who work or manage Teknosurf.it (the company owns Gratis.it) ethics is a basic choice of life: our sites should be visible to all, including children, and our users need to know what differentiates us from others. No compromises.
short, thanks to all of you who have followed us, thanked, encouraged and criticized by one day or 10 years. Indeed, while we are left here in your blog post so we'll remember your thoughts in the year 2007.
